Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois

Wir gingen mit einigen Erwartungen in dieses Restaurant. Diese Brasserie befindet sich im teuersten Hotel Basel. Wir wurden sehr nett begrüßt und zu einem schönen Tisch mit Blick auf den Fluss gebracht. Der Gentleman, der unseren Auftrag nahm, war auch großartig. So weit so gut. Aperitif wurde serviert, nachdem wir unser Essen bestellt haben. Etwas seltsam. Aber sie ließen uns unser Glas beenden, bevor der erste Kurs kam. Unsere junge Kellnerin, die eindeutig französisch war und anscheinend keine guten anderen Sprachkenntnisse hatte, war langsam. Wir sind hier im deutschen Teil der Schweiz. Und die meisten Kunden rund um uns waren internationale Gäste. Der Service war sehr langsam. Wir haben auch nur Beschwerden an Nachbartischen gehört. Wir wählten Käse als Wüste. Das war ein riesiger Teil, den wir beide nicht beendet haben. Die Essensqualität war gut, aber nicht ganz besonders (ich weiß, das ist eine Brasserie). 500 CHF für 3 Kurse, Wein und Kaffee zu bezahlen und diesen Service zu erhalten ist eine Katastrophe. Das haben wir in keinem anderen Restaurant in der Schweiz erlebt. Sie zahlen immer etwas Geld für Diner hier, aber wir sagen immer, dass in allen Restaurants der Service ist hervorragend. Es tut mir leid zu sagen, aber das war unser erster und letzter Besuch in dieser Brasserie.

We had a large group dinner at this restaurant which has great views of the Rhine river. We had to make reservations well in advance and were obliged to select one of five tasting menus in advance. They restaurant team was kind enough to allow us to have two options for the main entree in the tasting menu. The 5 course tasting menu proved to be excellent. The service was also excellent with a very energetic, enthusiastic waiter and a highly knowledgeable sommelier. The wine list is substantial with many great choices from Switzerland and nearby Alsace as well as other major regions of France, Italy, and Spain.

Quick lunch with our Swiss grandsons (5 7) and friends from Malta passing through. The restaurant staff were extremely helpful and coped perfectly with our tight schedule. They made us feel very welcome and made a special fuss of the little boys. They even served a complimentary cake when they heard it was my birthday. The food was first-class and the wine suggestions were excellent. There was a magnificent view of the Rhine from our window table. A special mention for the valet parking. We will certainly return soon !

They never failed, thank you for everything! As always we enjoyed our stay and the meals at the brasserie. At this point Les Trois Rois will turns into our headquarters (my daughter and I) , thank you for all. All these small attentions that I real appreciated and grateful for. Don’t change anything! The service is elegant and unobtrusively helpful. The decor and location overlooking the Rhine make for a restful but exciting ambience. The lobster bisque was to die for and up there with the best lobster bisque in the world at the Adler hotel in Berlin ….my opinion!
