The restaurant looks amazing, very tastefully done up, great atmosphere inside and on the terrace. Staff are friendly, and fairly knowledgeable about the items on the menu, although easily tripped up by any nonstandard questions, like weather the fish of the day is coming from a lake or a river, but this isn’t a deal breaker for me. When we arrived, I was so hoping to be able to give this great looking restaurant a very good review, but the food was a huge disappointment. Cumin seems to be the signature spice at the Blaue Ente. It’s baked in the loaf of bread you get when you sit down, it must be in many of their dishes as well, because even though we were sitting outside, while we were eating, at our table all I could smell was cumin in the air. As I don’t like the taste or smell of cumin this made it a very unpleasant evening for me. Having said that, I can’t blame the restaurant for my tastes, I just usually expect such excessive use of cumin in an Indian or Mexican restaurant, which I believe the Blaue Ente is neither. Both my starter and fish of the day were ok, but unimaginative and devoid of any flavour. I didn’t feel I was having a special meal in a special restaurant. Nobody at our table was overly impressed with the food, but maybe not quite as disappointed as I was.Needless to say, I won’t be back for the food. A real shame.
