“Dalmato” had moved to rather small premises in the city center only in September 2016. The dining area was of the sober style of a Croatian “Konoba”, with bare wooden tables and paper placemats, but quite nicely decorated. After having been assigned a table we had to wait fairly long until the host brought us the menus and asked what we would like to drink.Since we had lunch there on a Saturday, we had to content ourselves with the permanent menu because menus of the day were offered only from Monday through Friday. It was all right with us that this place provided just a limited choice made up primarily of fish dishes, complemented with a few meat dishes (mostly of minced meat typical for Croatia). All dishes were of a plain kind. In other words, we did not detect anything creative at the permanent menu. When we received our meals after a normal waiting time, we recognized that some of them did not fully correspond to the descriptions at the menu. For instance, a mediocre, very soft bread was served instead of toasted bread and so-called grilled calamari had in fact been fried in a pan. Portions were of ordinary size and the food was not bad, but rather greasy and not exceptional at all. This might have been acceptable if “Dalmato” were cheap. However, this was not the case and its performance by no means justified its advanced prices. This also applied to the sluggish service, which moreover lacked friendliness. We had to ask for a coffee ourselves and were not even offered a dessert either.
