It helps to have GPS guidance to find this Burg, which sits high above Bregenz and Lake Konstanz. A long winding road leads to a parking lot nestled in the woods behind the castle, and it is necessary to walk the last 100 meters or so on a cobbledroad. People do try to drive up that approach, but then find nowhere to park, and barely enough space to turn around. Because of the cobbles, and the dim lighting along the pathway, one's choice of footwear should be driven by practicality and safety rather than fashion. There are terraced areas near the entrance where customers can admire the views of the lake, the city of Bregenz, and a number of Alps, if they are not fortunate enough to have a table on the dining terrace. The food is not particularly ambitious, but is nicely cooked, and service is precise and timely. During the Festspiele, the Burgrestaurant Gebhardsburg serves a five course dinner commemorating the current opera (in our case, Puccini's Turandot,) and this included very palatable courses of caprese-style pannacotta with tomato, mushroom soup, fish from the lake, a beef and veal combo, and dessert, with a decent flight of mainly Austrian wines. There were at least two wedding parties going on, but diners on the terrace were not ignored in the least while watching the sunset over the lake. It would be wise to manage the intake of wine before attempting the after-dinner descent from the mountain - the road is quite steep in places, and is not particularly wide.
As there was a wedding on when we visited, didn't actually go into the restaurant but would recommend a drive/walk up here as the views from the top are brilliant (and free!) You can see down over the town of Bregenz and Lake Bondensee, behind you into Austria and then across one way to Switzerland and the other towards Germany - where else can you stand and view three countries in one go ! Take your camera.
Visited this place where we're at the wedding. Service was outstanding. Dishes were very tasting. Place is interesting as from balcony you can see 3 countries. From my point of view - place which should be visited when in Bregenz.
The beer was ok, so was the cheeseplate, but horrible coffee! and the view is not really worth the walk. There are better places to look over Bregenz then this place.
