Café de la Croix-d'Or

In the interests of having Swiss' cuisine, we chose this over the Thai restaurant my husband and I have visited before. The inside of the restaurant is very old-school' and charming, with features that look as if they have not been moved in several decades....The service was also very friendly and prompt, and they serve Boxer beer, which I am a big fan of. The main issue for me was the food itself. Two friends and my husband had the entrecote, which seemed OK, accompanied by some decent looking vegetables and a smallish side of shoestring (thinner) fries. The waitress offered more fries in a second round, which was sweet. My dish was a bit of a let-down, hence the rating. I ordered the civet de cerf (chasse season and all that) and found the deer was too dry and too salty, and that the side of cabbage was a bit thin and not massively inspiring. Luckily the dish was only CHF but I can't say I was overwhelmed by the cooking, which is a shame as I think this place would have been great otherwise.

On our way back from Jura in France and we needed some food for adults and kids who had been in the car for too long. A quick google for the nearest restaurant and we ended up here. The menu seemed like any...other restaurant, so we ordered the usual. But what a surprise! The food was all homemade to perfection, the fricassée of mushrooms beautifully seasoned and properly cleaned, the homemade burgers with smoked meat and homemade fries, the fagotini pasta cooked and executed to perfection. This is a real pleasure to eat food cooked by someone who clearly cares a great deal about the job they do. It’s not trying to break the mould of gastronomy, but doing good food, and doing it very well which a lot of restaurants don’t. Thanks again to the service and the Chef

Be ready to take your chances with a dishonest waitress. Food is quite good (slightly expensive, poor beer selection but no doubt a good cook in the kitchen). Unfortunately cannot return after such terrible and furthermore offensive treatment (i do not take offense easily)....Assiettrs correctes mais service catastrophique et, encore, malhonnête.

After a nice walk from Vallorbe in the Orbe's gorge (Orbe is also the name of the river), I was starving. I stopped in this restaurant (found thanks to TA), was lucky to find a table on the terrasse and could enjoy good cold cuts...and a delicious fondue. Good service. Nice place.

Service very unfriendly,if asking something for the food, answer was allmost go somewhere else. If asking something out of menu> go somewhere else... like mcdonalds)...and place is expensive..
