The short version of this story is that my traveling companion and I, although nicely dressed, polite and patient, have never been treated as poorly as the two wait staff we came in contact with treated us at Cafe Sperl. I suppose I understand why the place was popular with writers, as I could have written a novel in the time it took to be served. No comment can be made on the food, as we were forced to leave money on the table to cover our drinks after realizing that we were effectively being refused further service by the two surly shrews who busied themselves around us.What a great disappointment to a first time visitor of this lovely city.

I really don't have much to say about this place except that it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (can't say that wasn't the Kaiser-spritzer, but you know). It's the sort of place where, you go inside, and you can simply tell there's so much history there - and luckily, we had a Viennese friend as a "guide" to tell us about the owner and some of his experiences, so that it really hit home. It's a small gem, really, amidst the more modern stuff, and it's definitely worth a visit with a group of friends. There are literally piles of games you can play if you're conversationally-challenged, which sometimes works wonders. :D

We were leaving Naschmarkt and decided to make the close walk to this famous enough city attraction. Service was not very good, food was okay - it was our least favourite of all the places we ate during our Vienna trip. Not worth going to unless you happen to be right there. The couple at the table next to us decided to leave without ordering as we had waited so long for someone to take our orders. The piano player and the ambiance he provided were the best part of our experience here.
