Having been invited to my Dad’s partners 90th birthday celebration we were so looking forward to going to Duck Bay for an early dinner. On arrival the table was set lovely looking out over the Loch. We were given menus and the meal my husband wanted was not on the menu neither was the fish and chips. The menu was fine but not what we wanted. My Dad is 92 and loves his fish and chips and so does his partner. We were told because we had too many people at the table they couldn’t do fish and chips or the steak and sausage pie. We jokingly asked if we separated the tables or sat elsewhere could we have the said items from the menu. The server went and asked then moved a table we were sitting on to the left of the main group and we could then get what we wanted from the other menu. We were now two separate bookings. THIS WAS LUDICROUS! It was like a scene from faulty towers. Our small table of four had our dinner and the larger group had their starters ,their plates sat for over 20 minutes before the were removed with my sister having to ask for them to be taken away. The birthday girl was by this time really hungry as was my dad as they didn’t have a starter. The larger group then received their main courses and it wasn’t at all satisfactory. My sisters scampi had to be returned as the scampi was so overcooked and hard and the fries for the mains were like the shakings of an old bag of straw. We ordered a baileys and returned that as it had curdled,my husband asked 3 times for a pint to be told on the third attempt that there was a problem with the certain pint he had asked for,so no one bothered to offer him something else. We definitely won’t be back and it’s such a shame as we only live in Balloch so it’s right on our doorstep. Apparently they run some sort of training academy and all I can say to that is they should all go back to school! The icing on the cake is when my sister after paying in the region of £400 was told that after a similar complaint to mine was “ You can’t please everyone and we should dine elsewhere “ ABSOLUTELY APPALLING. Yes we will take your advice and dine elsewhere. Lots of nicer places to dine with friendlier staff.

We travelled to Duck Bay as part of the second leg of my Birthday weekend trip. Overall the stay was ok. I would summarise this place as a Restaurant with rooms attached, rather than a Hotel. All of the facilities are positioned towards individuals dining at the restaurant, rather than residents. There was no place to comfortably relax in the evening. Final orders were at 8:45 and post dinner Bobby’s the bolt on to the restaurant is an uncomfortable seating area not suited to guests relaxing post dinner. We ended up getting a bottle of wine and sitting in our room. It would be great to make a lounge space bar something similar for residents to relax in the evening. Bobby’s is more like a pre-eat waiting room. The food was ok, with service also ok. Some of the staff were excellent, some really were not. Bedroom was decent size, clean, with a good bathroom to a high spec. Unfortunately my partner and I were put in a room overlooking the car park. So couldn’t enjoy the view so much. More of an issue because of the lack of lounging area post dinner. Overall, Duck Bay has a phenomenal spot and sitting on the Loch, think they have a better spot than Cameron House next door, but the lack of facilities is a big let down. The potential is massive. Probably wouldn’t be back unless improvements were made.

Our experience at this hotel was a mixed bag…I will start with our experience just after we booked the rooms 5 months ago, we were planning our NC500 road trip around Scotland and we had booked all of our hotels only to find that the restaurant that we wanted to visit in Edinburgh could not accommodate us on the night we were going to be there so we altered the entire trip by 1 day. We requested to change the date of our stay at Duck Bay (within a couple of hours of booking) and they initially refused and then only after calling them they said they would have to check with Head Office. For a fee they agreed to the change but the tone of their communications were generally abrupt, including the reminder emails closer to the trip. We were not expecting a warm welcome but to our pleasant surprise, the 2 ladies in Reception were very welcoming and the rooms were nice, the beds comfortable and each room has a balcony overlooking Loch Lomond. We went to the restaurant for dinner and found it to be disappointingly average, there were way too many options on the menu which is always a sign of factory food. To be fair, the prices reflected the quality of the food… The service at the restaurant was very friendly and efficient. So, would I stay there again? Yes but I would not eat there again.

Cramped rooms, crowded and loud restaurants. The rooms are so small that there's no place to open the suitcase and no closet. The restaurant is so noisy you can't converse, and they served my gluten-free meal incorrectly prepared twice. Kirsti was very friendly and helpful. The view is gorgeous.
