Have been visiting this hotel off and on for the past 35 years and I 'm sorry to say this evening I had the worst meal ever. Ordered the steak and ale 'puff pastry ' pie but this turned out to be more like soggy short crust pastry, nevertheless, I was prepared to give it a go as I was quite hungry having been travelling all day. Unfortunately, there were only 4 pieces of meat in the pie 2 of which were gristle to add insult to injury the accompanying vegetables were rubbery. I asked to speak to someone in charge and pointed these matters out to the lady who came over even bending the carrot into a U shape to demonstrate how rubbery and trying unsuccessfully to slice the broccoli. As a result I was not charged for the meal which was fine but I do feel that the management should know of the poor content and quality of the pies being received from their supplier and the standard of the rest of the meal being passed by their head chef as the reputation of the hotel depends on these issues. Needless to say I 'll be giving the Ethorpe a miss a while, Out of fairness I should mention my wife had the lasagne with garlic bread which she enjoyed!
Well as you will see in my last review I would be back more often.... Yet again I was not disappointed with my stay. The hotel still fresh and clean, really welcoming warm reception when me and my partner were checking in. We decided to stay this time as my grandparents live in Bournemouth and it is a nice stop gap for us driving from Manchester. But little did we know we would get to see Santa when we stopped over. We haven't seen that many excited children in one room for a long time. Santa definitely made the right choice to stop here. My breakfast was delicious I couldn't fault it for a second. My partner (the fussy one) was again very well accommodated with his unusual requests Paul and Michelle (remembered to ask their names this time) have been wonderful. Both giving you that home away from home feeling. Nothing was too much trouble. I honestly couldn't recommend this hotel enough.
Absolutely appalling, no staff, staff under huge pressure, who ever is in charge should be at the job centre in the New year ,waited 20 minutes to be served a drink eventually gave up. Went to other bars in GX got served in seconds, there's too much competition in GX now the Eathorpe needs to start pulling their socks up .very angry local customer, no excuse, ruined our Christmas Eve
The rooms had been refurbished since we last stayed in Sept 22 and looked much better for it. Unfortunately the heating in our room was working properly. However we were moved to another room without fuss and enjoyed the rest of our 2 night stay; being compensated for the inconvenience. We will stay again when visiting family who live nearby.
