Grotto Ticinese

We love eating at restaurants where locals eat. This was one such place. We got lucky that our hotel recommended this place, called in and made a reservation for us. It was pretty late in the evening around 9 PM, but the place was...hopping. Lots of Luganese families were having their dinners there always a good sign! Food was excellent and portions were huge. Service was very good too. In fact, we were very hungry and tried to order too much. Our waiter politely recommended that we wait until some of the courses arrive to make a decision whether we want to order the rest. He was right. We couldn't even finish what he brought out. Highly recommend this place.

We‘ve ordered a grilled meat plate with fries and vegetables. The meat was ok, the vegetables and the fries were absolutely boring. The worst part: We‘ve got played badly about the price: Next to the „grigliata mista“ was written „for 2 people“ and we thought...the price was accordingly for two people. However we missed that next to the price is was written: „p.p.“ which means per person and we had to pay double the price. The waiter didn‘t mention anything until the bill came. If want to order this meal, please pay attention to this important detail.

The specialty of this nice, characteristic restaurant is meat, especially grilled/barbecue. The ambience is nice and the staff friendly. A nice outdoor scene is available. Definitely a very good experience.

Very nice people and great garden for a summer evening. Typical food for grotto, Certainly worth a visit.
