Whilst searching on the internet for a restaurant just outside the centre of Tours, I came across L’Opidom. I didn't find the restaurant web-site very informative, but the TripAdvisor reviews were generally very good. After dashing into the restaurant in a downpour of rain, we were immediately made to feel very welcome and helped off with our coats and then seated at our table. The staff were very friendly and helpful in every way, without being over-attentive. The service was fairly formal, but correct and very professional. We immediately liked the spacious contemporary feel to the restaurant. I had eaten there many years ago, but since then the restaurant and its exterior had had a complete ’make-over’. Our waiter took the time to carefully explain the dishes on the menu before we ordered, and each time that he brought up our courses. I always like to know exactly what I'm eating. The proprietor also took the time twice during our meal to answer questions that we had about the meal and check that everything was satisfactory. He even told us how to cook part of our starters. His passion for his work was evident. The chef obviously had the enviable ability to use every day ingredients and present them in an imaginative, unusual and delicious way. For example, our starter was semi-cooked salmon with a sauce of cauliflower purée and coconut milk, accompanied by pickled radish, tiny slivers of radish and spots of green purée made from the radish leaves. It was not only sophisticatedly presented, but tasted superb. I am fortunate enough to regularly eat in a large variety of restaurants and hence am very critical of restaurant service and what I eat. I can truthfully say that I considered this restaurant excellent in every aspect and will certainly be returning. Our meal was also very good value for money (we had a three course lunch at 36 euros), as the food that was presented to us, involved a considerable amount of time-consuming work and preparation.
