Let's start off by saying we have eaten in some pretty amazing places over the years and this past year in particular. But this one might be the pinnacle of creative gastronomy. To put it simply: if any of you watch Chef's table on Netflix, that's basically the level we are talking about here.We went with the surprise tasting menu (not the gastronomical one). Every single one of the 9 courses was worth the 250km+ drive. Every small bit of food, every detail is so painstakingly perfect, you can truly feel the love for cooking behind it (and a long conversation with the chef confirmed that feeling). For us, food is like art. What I find amazing are not necessarily the technically difficult courses but the ones that are truly novel. This 'aha' moment you get when seeing a Rothko for the first time, but food-wise. Of course you could do it in you own kitchen, but you simply never would have thought of it. I had 9 'aha; moments that night , 16 if you count my fiancees dishes that happened to differ from mine, on account of her taking the vegetarian menu.Needless to say, the setting and the staff are on par with the food. We looked at each other at the end of the meal and realized, there was absolutely nothing you could have done better or differently. To be fair it's not necessarily good because every restaurant you'll visit after this one and every meal you have will just never be on that level. Long story short, we're already planning our next trip there (the added bonus is, unlike many good restaurants, they change the menu 5x a year!), and we're looking forward to the autumn menu!
