Restaurant La Palombiere

We have been frequenting this restaurant for the last 25 years and remember the original old boy who ran it. He always kept his customers entertained with jokes about mother-in-laws and other slightly non-PC stories. Great. Fortunately the current owners have continued his policy when it comes to the food and that is to provide good quality home-cooked food at a reasonable price. The place is exactly what you would expect of a typical French restaurant, but rarely find these days.Don't expect much in the way of choice. This restaurant isn't for the fussy. In fact at lunch today the only choice was the deserts of which there were four. For 13.50 Euros we had soup (homemade and delicious), an entree (starter), plat (main) and either cheese or the choice of deserts. If you choose the cheese than you can pay an extra 5 Euros and have desert as well. For 14.50 Euros you can have the four courses plus coffee. All very tasty and excellent value for money. Wine is also included. They supply you with a pichet of wine that you can drink or leave. Very civilized. Free water as well of course.It dismayed me to read the bad review from January. Don't be put off by that, it is rubbish. Those people were just in the wrong place for their particular requirements. There is a McDonald's in Cahors!The restaurant itself is "French country" style and very atmospheric in summer when they have all of the windows open. Be adventurous and give it a try!

Being a lover of good food, I can be disappointed with what is on offer at some local restaurants ( though 14€ For a complete meal, including wine, is unheard of in the UK!), but not this time. A lovely dining room, with great ambience and some surprising attention to detail for a local village restaurant. The owner/chef is a charming lady and the day we had lunch the restaurant was full of people, but she managed to cater for everyone entirely on her own! We had soup, entrée, main dish of excellent grilled chicken and 'frites maison', cheese or a choice of dessert, a pichet of red wine and wonderful bread- plus an espresso to finish. All for 14.50€!!! How can you fault this? Pay absolutely no attention to the mystifying review from January- there were customers from all walks of life and everyone was enjoying their meal. I also noticed that she makes pizzas on Friday and Saturday nights- very useful to know. And she is open in the winter (lovely wood burner installed) which is almost unheard of!So, do go and find out for yourself how nice this place is, and leave the complainers to their Big Macs...

Voici une belle adresse. Repas un midi de jour férié à 20 euros. La soupe de campagne est offerte. Salade magret et deux tartines au chèvre chaud. Le choix ensuite entre une souris d'agneau et tajine de poulet, le tout accompagné de frites maisons et de fèves.... Alors là un régal ! Je n'avais jamais mangé de fèves au restaurant... Un délice. Puis le choix entre fromage et dessert. J'avais déjà trop mangé mais j'ai quand même apprécié la verrine aux framboises. Ma fille, dont on fêtait son anniversaire, a eu droit à un gâteau maison entier (moelleux chocolat et framboise)... Très bon. Chaque plat était non seulement bon mais très copieux, nous ne sommes pas venus à bout des fèves et des frites. Si le cadre n'a pas de charme particulier, la qualité des produits maison et le sourire et la gentillesse du personnel le fait oublier. Les toilettes sont propres. Grand parking devant le restaurant facile d'accès pour voiture et moto. Attention les chèques vacances ne sont pas acceptés.

Lunch is for local farmers. We had one of the worst meals we have ever had in France - ever. The proprietress was unable to satisfactorily explain why the Locals got an extra cheese course. The place was not well appointed. The food was very ordinary - enough said. We won't be going again - there are so many better places to eat within 15 kms.

accueil chaleureux dans un cadres sympathiqueles produits sont très bons - du fait maison - du frais - cuisine très finedu potage au dessert tout est bon - nous nous sommes régalésla semaine repas unique - qualité prix parfait -je recommande ce resto très agréable
