Restaurante 1595

We were walking by in search of cheap eats when we saw a lunch special here for 8,000 including soup, entree (chicken or pork), tamarind drink, and dessert. The entree came with rice, patacones and salad. The soup was a delicious chicken lentil and the dessert was a jam and cheese bite. The entree wasn't anything special and was clearly made ahead of time...sort of like a chicken chop suey in a sauce. We also ordered frozen fruit drinks which hit the spot after a long day in the sun. The air con dining room was nicely decorated and service was very kind (though no English spoken by server so hard to ask about the menu).

After searching unsuccessfully for another restaurant, we stumbled on this one. When you go in, there is a stairway going up. That is not the entrance to the restaurant, it is to the side of the stairway (This is to clarify for the review just before this one). It is a very pleasant courtyard, good escape from the heat outside. The service was good, the waiter very attentive. The fish we had was well prepared and a large enough portion, that two of us shared it. The meal came with soup, salad and plantains and was very reasonable in cost. A very nice lunch

We paid 10.000 pesos average for each dish and I gotta say I wish I found something like this in every city I've been to. Even though is insanely cheap food is fresh, generous portion, kind server (no english at all so u better have good spanish skills) and drinks are quite good and big

We stopped by twice to find the street level door open then a spooky stairway up to a closed door. Didn't attempt to enter.

While exploring the old town in Cartagena, this jewel of a restaurant discovered. Quiet, clean and food was amazing.
