Not the nicest day to enjoy the terrace but nonetheless, it was nice to be there right on the lake. That is ..... until the food arrived. Usually Swiss food distinguishes itself by a solid executation of reasonable quality ingredients - completely serviceable but doesnt knock your socks off. Once you know Swiss prices, it takes a lot to shock, and at this place it did - not so much the price, but what was delivered for it. Take my perch dish at about 36 francs with about 6 measly small fish pieces, completely overcooked (or dried out for hanging around too long in the kitchen) - even the piece of lemon was dried out (it fell apart when I tried to squeeze it.) There was a sizable portion of french fries on it for which you cannot justify the better part of 36 francs. My husband took an apero platter, expecting a sizable portion for 25 francs - but it was really only suitable for apero and then the cheese had the texture and taste of the rinds which are normally cut off and thrown away. This we did complain about and asked for it to be changed - it came back with some other cheese and still the stale chunks, claiming that this was a local speciality Sbrinz and it was supposed to be like that. After living in Switzerland and enjoying much cheese in the region for 4 years, we do know a good cheese from a bad one. In all fairness, our dining companions steak in herb butter looked fantastic and was much enjoyed, but the steak was very measly at the 58 franc price tag. The girl who took our order was very nice and solicitous; but there was not enough of her and too many guests for the service to be described as flowing. In the end, this is just a shame. For a location this gorgeous, we are prepared to pay the price but not to be taken advantage of, which is what happened today. Next time we will bring our own sausages, grill them by the water in the woods just behind, and then go and take a coffee on the way home.
