Came up by train from Interlaken for a meal and found this lovely old Swiss chalet with its outdoor area and its fine dining restaurant that also caters for the hungry! They have a wine 'cellar' and a wide variety of dishes, some of which were very pricey. We settled for the Steinbockrosti that came in an enormous portion that I could only just finish. Very tasty and with a good local beer the perfect combination. To walk off the meal a path leads down to the lake with a pleasant walk back to the station.
Realistically, almost none (if any) of the restaurants in Brienz are actually "lake front" because there is a public walkway that goes directly along the lake. While the Steinbock is across the street besides, you do have a nice view of the lake and mountains on the other side. And the food & service are outstanding.
Very convenient to have the restaurant in the hotel, when you come back tired after a day of exploration! Copious portions, good quality, and a variety of Swiss dishes.
Steinbock is a good restaurant with dishes to suit all pockets and tastes. Good swiss cooking. Situated on the main street in Brienz.
