The restaurant is located in the little village “Heppingen” that belongs to Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. Parking on the street is available. They have two restaurants. The Gourmet restaurant and the more basic “Landgasthof Poststuben“. We went to the Gourmet restaurant. The dining room is not big but large enough. The decoration is tasteful. You can select from two menus and build a four to seven course meal out of it. I had five courses which were delicious and really enough. After an aperitif with local sparkling wine, we had two starters which were not part of the five courses. I had as starter Monkfish with aubergines. As main courses I had Pluma (Iberico Pig) with corn and local deer with chanterelle. After that I had a good choice of cheese and the dessert was apricot with ice and caramel chocolate. We had local red wine from the Ahr which was good. The service is very professional and kind. Mr. Anheuer, the boss and chef paid us a visit and asked for our impressions.
I'd say this is one of the three best restaurants I have visited in Germany. Everything was delicious, and the set menu offered commendable variety without seeming chaotic. The recipes strike a nice balance between creativity and tradition. Each dish manages to appeal to different aspects of the palate, while still tasting fresh and never lopsided or off the deep end. Excellent service, comfortable dining room, pleasant little town, private parking lot. Whether you're staying in the area or just driving through Germany, don't miss it!
We had an absolutely perfect dinner at Steinheuers. The food was amazing, each dish (and there were many) was surprising and delicious. You can mix between the two menus and the open wine selection was well chosen. The service is impeccable and we liked the relatively relaxed friendly atmosphere. We had such a good time and will be back!
2.5 h for 6 courses and a feast for all your senses during. You will be treated warm, even if you arrive by bike and as solo rides- both seem a rare race here. Anyway, you're not afraid and just pampering. It's worth it.
