On a recent trip to Busselton, we stopped off at the Old Cheddar Cheese Factory and sampled their cheeses. The lady who was serving offered us 250gm blocks of cheddar and pickle onion cheese (in Aldi packaging) for $5, saying it was a discounted price because her boss had told her to sell some excess stock of the cheese they had started to sell through Aldi stores. We ended up spending about $20 in cheese, thinking that we were getting a good price, buying one of their ‘special packages’ and the discounted Aldi cheese. About 30 minutes up the road we stopped off at Bunbury Farmers Market, and were very disappointed to see that the cheeses we had just purchased as a ‘special package’ were much cheaper and we would not have been forced to buy a package to get a ‘special discounted price’. Later in the week we were further disgusted to find that the Aldi cheese that we supposedly were sold at a discounted price was in fact only $3.60 from Aldi – ripped off again. You would think that buying direct from the manufacturer that it would be cheaper and the best place to buy WRONG! Go to the supermarkets, Aldi or Bunbury Fresh for the best deals, the manufacturer is only focused on ripping off unsuspecting tourists and visitors to the area. What they don’t see is that we would never go back to them and refuse to buy any of their cheeses out of principal… so not only have they lost what could have been a regular customer, but we regularly tell this story and have warned a number of people off of both buying and visiting the Old Cheddar Cheese factory. Amazing our they say support the local producers when times are poor, what about they stop ripping off the public first. My suggestion would be, stop there, taste their cheese, if you like them, go about 30 minutes up the road and buy from Bunbury Farmers Market and save $$$
have made trips to Busselton over 20 years but had never stopped at this place. Decided to make a stop this time and was well rewarded with marvellous cheese made on site and providing employment to the locals. Will make sure that we will stop by here every trip as local industry requires all our support.
What amazing service. A smile, conversation and great knowledge of the cheese. Couldn't ask for anymore.The cheese was amazing (a good price too!) and highly recommend a stop here. They have a cafe area for anyone who wants to stop for a lunch. What a beautiful place.
Best cheese factory by far and have been to plenty. Friendly staff. Better signage to find it from both directions would be good. The cheeses were great, took a lot home. Had a platter for two and couldn't eat all of it. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit.
