If you enjoy a rewarding beer and lunch after a solid walk the Schutzhaus is like an oasis. The staff are very friendly the food is typical Tyrol and very very good and prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend for a lunch with a view...
We stopped in for a snack and a beer pre hike and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Staff was very busy, yet still really attentive and friendly. Owner is a character and works with his staff doing just about everything. The special potato dumplings with cheese and spinach may be the best thing I've eaten across 3 countries in the last 2 weeks. The apple strudel (with vanilla creme) was as good as any I've come across as well. All in all a great spot to eat, drink, and listen to the cows graze (in the summer).
This is a great place for a mountain lunch. The staff are very helpful (hello Stefan) and the menu has enough so that you can visit several times during your week's holiday and not get bored of the choices. I recommend the chicken broth, and I had the Schnitzel Cordon Bleu three times because it was delicious. There are even a couple of great local wines on the menu. It's even worth taking the cable car there from Igls on foot if you are not skiing, just for that traditional alpine lunch experience.
Right next to the summit station of Innsbruck's classic Patscherkofel cable car you will find this restaurant in an own house called "Schutzhaus". Built in 1887, the house/cottage includes a restaurant as well as rooms to sleep. Besides many local delicious dishes, the Schutzhaus offers a the terrace with a breathtaking view/panorama over Innsbruck and surroundings (check the photo attached which I took during my stay). Definitely a place to recommend if you are hiking up to the summit or returning from it.
This restaurant is located at the top of the Pascherkofl cable car. It's quite a trek to get to from the center of Innsbruck, so I would only recommend it if you were planning to take the cable car to the top in the first place. This is pretty much also only a lunch or afternoon place as the cable car down ends at 5pm. The setting is a lovely mountain hut with an exquisite view of Innsbruck and the surrounding valleys. The food is excellent as well, a very good representation of the best of Austrian and local Tyrolean specialties including fried calves heads. We didn't get that adventurous, but our orders of beef noodle and dumpling soup, bacon and dumpling soup, and the fried veal sausage was all very good and tasted well seasoned with fresh ingredients. The bacon dumpling soup is especially recommended as it's a very unique dish with a giant baseball sized dumpling with Tyrolean bacon mixed in. The beef soup was very good as well and hearty with loads of tasty roasted beef and noodles. The fried veal sausage was excellent as well with a fresh homemade sausage, well seasoned potatoes (home fries we would call in the US), and excellent sauerkraut. Add in a very reasonably priced 50cl of Austrian beer, it makes for a great lunch.The only thing that made us slightly uncomfortable was that the owner seemed to be very friendly with all the Caucasian guests, which was all of the guest in the restaurant besides us, no matter the nationality. However it felt like our presence as non-Caucasians were only merely tolerated. This did seem to be a recurring theme with some Austrian establishments, but by no means all of them.Nevertheless it was a good lunch with great food and an even better view.
I Had a great meal at Schutzhaus on Patscherkofel. I have eaten here before. The Service and food never disappoint. The view from above Innsbruck is spectacular. If you are in Innsbruck, you really should have a meal at Schutzhaus on Patscherkofel.
The weather conditions wasn't the best when my wife and I was there but between the clouds could we see Innsbruck and I would imagine that the view is great when the it's better. We took some Frankfurter and a bear which always works for me. The location on Tripadvisor is however completely wrong.
After a day of hiking the trails we stopped for lunch at Schutzhaus.Wife had the Frankfeurter and fries and I tried the mixed grill Schutzhaus. Both were very good and hit the spot.Had the hot chocolate for dessert....it was delicious!!!!The view is amazing and service was great!
