We came here for lunch on our cycling trip to Lienz and found everything very good service prompt and fast, clean facilities, good beer and good food we got a cream soup and a mushroom salad (finferli) among others. Desert was delicious too! Definitely a good stop at this centuries old family hotel and restaurant.
We stop by when we on the way to Italy in the evening. We tried to avoid the typical Austrian food and order some normal dish like grill chicken and fish. Surprisingly both dishes turn out very nice! We also order the tiramisu cake after the meal which is also very delicious and the portion is quite big if compare to others. Overall, delicious food and friendly staffs.
The food here is outstanding, and representative of local cuisine, at a good price point. This in has been here over 400+ years; they are doing something right to keep it going that long.
The first time I went to Gsthof Aue was years ago, when I was a kid, coming back to Italy with my family after a day spent in Lienz swimmingpool ... late in the afternoon we found by chance this quiet parking place and a possibility to eat something typical. The result was perfect, grilled meat, speck, austrian flavours and kindness by the family that owned the structure. We (me and my family) came back always for dinner every time we went again to Lienz, in the following years. This summer I spend few days biking through nothern Italy and Austria, and decided to spend my first night in Gasthof Aue, both for dinner and sleeping ! Well, it was still the same ... same lovely grilled meat dish, same speck, same family and kindness, same quiet parking place and outdoor tables .. and, something new an austrian beer (I couldn't when I was a kid)! Prices are still excellent, as for the room I slept in (BB treatment). The room was poor but still decent and very comfortable; breakfast was rich and with a lot of possibilities. Gasthof Aue also offers facilities for bike parking .. and a a market just close to the entrance (there is a bank also) if you need to buy something for the new biking day! I'd definetely suggest Gasthof Aue!
