The Chalet is in almost every photograph of Gruyeres, so I don't need to tell you how to find it. It's the only restaurant open late (till 11 in summer) in Gruyeres on the weekend, so it's inevitably busy at night. Great fondue. Really solid service. My favorite: the balcony tables overlooking the entire village. Perfect!

We were on the way to Gruyeres and looked for a highly recommended place for lunch. We decided on Le Chalet and it was a great pick. We shared a tomato fondue and a salad. Everything was very good, including the service. There's a great view if you sit outside, which I would recommend.

We went here after a 160 mile motorcycle ride in the rain. Fancied something to fill a gap until dinner. I had the vegetable soup with melted cheese and cream, wow fantastic it came with a side of Comte and rustic bread. Looked expensive at €12 but was worth every penny.A place not to miss.

The restaurant offers a very good fondue and a pleasant, interactive cheesemaking demonstration during the lunchtime meal. Our lunch was part of the "Cheese Train" tour from Montreux and with a relatively large influx of diners at one time, the serving staff was a bit overwhelmed and the dining process, especially as pertaining to the tour, was not communicated at all. Once it was sorted out, the service was acceptable and the fondue, as I mentioned, was delicious and very filling.

We recently stopped here for lunch. It's in a shopping plaza of sorts right by a highway. Seeing it made my expectations rather low. Well what a surprise! The meals we had were excellent and we couldn't agree on who's was better. It is well worth a stop, just ignore the Coop across the parking lot.

We chose to make a specific trip to this restaurant to see the cheese making demonstration. It may have been our own ignorance, but I would not bother planing a trip here to see cheese making. It is a very long process and there is no one talking about it -- this is not a presentation like Gruyere - you basically just sit and watch the milk get hot, the gentleman stir in the curd, the milk sit. not very interesting. We had the impression this would be more of a presentation and its not -- he's just making cheese and you happen to be dining in the restaurant and can watch if you want. Nonetheless, the fondue and the cheese soup and both very good and very filling, in an authentic swiss chalet.

We have been to this restaurant on several occasion in the past and always had a very good meal. At lunch time customers are treated to a demonstration of cheese making in the old authentic way, in a couldron over an one fire, as it used to be made in a mountain chalet, The menu is traditional swiss cuisine you could expect to find in a chalet, the cheese dishes (Fondue, Croute au fromage) are made with the restaurants own produced cheese, and very tasty too. This is a fantastic place to eat. *** The only problem is that they close at 6.00pm, which is a real shame *01.08.2016 Fete Nationale Suisse - We were walking in the region, and as we parked near by, we just wanted to see if Le Chalet was open. To our pleasant surprise, we found out that this week only, the restaurant was open till midnight. So we booked a table and enjoyed a delicious fondue.

On an impulse after a long walk downhill I stopped at le Chalet for lunch on a sunny Saturday. I sat outside on the terrace with views across the mountains and towards the church perched above the village. Service was prompt and friendly. The salad I ate was very good, with several flavours of cheese and served with plenty of bread. There were lots of other customers and a guy stirring a big vat full of cheese for the many fondue eaters! Perhaps the flowery skirts and aprons worn by the waitresses and the swinging musak from the speakers were a slight overdose of Alpine ambience, but on the other hand, when in the Alps, why not. Grey uniforms, rap or rock would be out of place.
