Our visit to Chur happened during an unusually warm period. Without air conditioning, sleeping comfortably for these Americans was a bit of an issue but we were fortunate to have a corner room which provided cross-ventilation. It also helped that we were exhausted from a full touring itinerary! The bathroom was accommodating and the shower was very enjoyable. Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were outstanding - expansive offerings, made to order omelets, very good bacon, beautiful breads - plus, everything was well-attended and maintained.I loved being in old-town Chur and being able to look out the window of our room onto the old streets. The elevator was small but we were happy to have one especially with all the luggage that we had! And it worked efficiently.We definitely recommend the Freieck Hotel as a great place to stay in the beautiful city of Chur.
I loved this hotel. The shower was Amazing! The family who ran it are super duper friendly. The room was large and clean and the hotel itself it quite pretty. The bar was nice and the breakfast was exceptional.
Delightful ancient place to stay on a drive between Rome and Brussels (we had planned to stay in Luzern but the St Gotthard pass was seriously congested and road signs suggested we take the San Bernardino pass towards Chur instead). The historic centre of Chur is charming and pedestrianised so very quiet (no issue with dusk to dawn church bells, as can be the case elsewhere in Central Europe). Very comfortable large room with architectural details highlighting the building's serious (16th century) antiquity. But all modern comforts including excellent bathroom. Generous buffet breakfast. Free parking until 8am outside the hotel. CHF 165 (€157) for two probably not unreasonable, considering you're in Switzerland?
Beautiful setting, very friendly and helpful staff. Food o.k. Hotel itself was very clean with a lovely shower
We walked up from the train station which is about 10mins walk. Once we had a map we found this hotel. Service was very friendly, the bathroom modern and the bed comfortable. Good quality TV, safe and nice breakfast. The only downside for us was that the room did not have a fridge. Plenty of restaurants nearby.
Would like to highly recommend this hotel. The room we had was affordable and comfortable but what really took our breath away was the view of the mountain from our bed. Imagine going to sleep and waking to see this spectacular sight from the comfort of your bed. Absolutely breathtaking! Management very friendly. Hotel has everything you need. Chur is a beautiful town. Only stayed one night which was not enough. Will return here next visit.
A nice hotel in a quiet street in the centre of Chur. 10-15 minutes on foot from the railway station. The building of the hotel is in 500 years old, by the way. In 1825 it was the place were horses were changed and people could stay for the night. he building was rebuilt several times, the last time in 2014, but one can still see the original vaulted ceilings and thick walls on the ground floor. It was 1 night stay when I did the Bernina/Albula/Glaciers expresses. It was a comfortable room, bed, quiet place to relax after a day full of sightseeing. The breakfast was good. I liked it.
Stayed in room 403 that overlooked the very pretty town of Chur with the town clock right outside our window. This hotel is full of character and charm and staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel owner cooks breakfast himself right there in the dining room and the bacon was the best I have had in ages! If you are heading off on the Bernina Express as we were, this is the perfect choice. Linda and Michael from Halifax, UK
