beautiful, picturesque restaurant with typical Swiss decor and a fantastic view. they are warned, they do not accept credit cards. due to the COVID situation there is also a limited menu.
in the middle of a hike a drink stopped. beautiful. That was great, but we didn't eat. many families enjoy lunch. I hope to get back.
Why? because the service is very good, friendly helpful and simple perfect. eating is classic Swiss cuisine, but of the highest quality, much of it, including bark meat from the farm itself and the location is beautiful. Moreover, the cost is realistic and...fair that is not an excessively pretentious restaurant, it is simple, clean and simply wonderful. we can't expect to go back. I had the pork steak, with rosti and a green salate, others had the cold beef basket salate, which was the special of the day.......it was sensational. the more I think about restaurant bermattenhof, the more I know how much I love this place. I don't know anyone in the restaurant, I'm not related to the cook, nor am I supplier. I'm just a visitor who just wanted to thank me. '
We came to this restaurant over 20 years ago, though when looking to review I noticed that its not listed on Tripadvisor. This will give you an idea of its location. Unless you know its here, you wouldn't find it. Why? because its in The...Canton of Basel, Baselland actually, between Zwingen and Laufen and is behind a small village called Dittingen. Dittengen is a lovely little village and the restaurant is a short drive above the village on the top of a road up a mountain'. OK, its not a mountain as such, but its very high and therefore has wonderful unspoilt views. The restaurant hasn't changed since we last visited, its traditional, simple, clean and the food is delicious. I love it here. I had a dish from the day's special menu and its was wonderful. Liver and Rosti with a salad from the garden of the restaurant. I know that liver is not to everyones taste but the menu is extensive and there were a lot of other options including port chops, steak, bratwurst etc. This is great wholesome, homemade and delicious food.The service was perfect, welcoming, warm and helpful. We are going to go again later this week we hope. The restaurant is off the beaten track but well worth seeking out as its a special place and there aren't many like this left any more.
