Food in this restaurant is excellent. Decor is pleasant, nothing fancy. Our waitresses, thou polite, were looking like they were in some kind of rush, indirectly trying to speed up our ordering, although there were only few guests at the time.
I have been in this restaurant many times and never had any problem and actually really liked.., except today... after today's lunch.. I do not think I will come back. After living in Switzerland for almost 10 years mostly in the German part, I do know that the Swiss will cut there left arm just to admit there is anything wrong with their food or service .. but to actually having a manager arguing with you ... that was my first!!!! Extremely disappointed by the service and the way how they handle a complain..
First off, the food is excellent, and the servings were surprisingly large for this type of food. The decor is a strange mix of post-modern and, maybe jungle ?However, our principal server was obsequious, and kind of creepy. His colleague was a cold-as-ice and condescending. It was like eating at a restaurant run by the Adams Family, with Lurch and Wednesday serving us.
My husband enjoyed the fondue I had the creamed mushroomswith pasta. Have a little bit of a language barrier as no one really spoke English. But the menu has everything in English so you just point and it's worth it.
This restaurant is situated in the comunne of Epagny in the Canton of Fribourg, right at the roundabout to turn to the Château de Gruyère. Went to visit with my family, and enjoyed our meal very much. The "cadre" is modern and welcoming, as it has been recently re-done.The service is very cordial, attentive and timely. We ordered two steak tartare, and two steak de boeuf sur ardoise. Most if the time we go skiing to Gstaad, on the way back stop for diner. I really reocommend this restaurant, paticularly for families.
Stopped by on a wet public holiday Monday in May and they were fortunately still open and serving all afternoon. There were 8 of us with no reservation, but no issue. Menu was extensive and kept 4 kids and 4 adults. Colourings and pencils for the kids were provided. Highlight was steak served on sizzling stone block. Fondue was good. Gruyere meringue dessert with local cream also great. Plus local artisan beer. Good value at 105chf too (for Switzerland).
If you're looking for cheese fondue in Gruyeres (why else would you go there?) and you're on a budget, La Croix Blanche serves up a tasty solution for less than the tourist traps in the old town.. The atmosphere is not as touristy as up on the "hill", is frequented by locals and is family-friendly.
