I came here with a few colleagues tonight, having been recommended to us. The service was friendly, attentive and fast, and the restaurant was clean, the decor was very traditional. Contrary to other reviews menus are available in English.I had the potato soup with mushrooms to start which was the best soup I've had in a long time, followed by turkey schnitzel which was absolutely delicious and massive- putting shame to what we call a schnitzel in England!This along with 2 beers came to €22 which I thought was excellent value.This is definitely a great choice in Leoben, and situated right in the main square.
I had visited this restaurant almost two decades ago and this time I had lunch there. It has a unique interior, friendly service, good and inexpensive food. Has many specials like lunch menu but we picked up dishes from their menu. Food is good and plenty and very fulfilling. Beer is Gösser. We did enjoy our lunch there and I recommend anyone that visits Leoben to try this place.
We had lunch last sunday at Arkadenhof, the food was very traditional and good, the service was good. The down side is that they DON'T have a non smoking area, and tge toilets are old.
We had several meals at Arkadenhof during our week-long stay in Leoben. The food and the service were good each time we went there --- for lunches and dinners. It was quite convenient to where we were staying and we liked the atmosphere inside...very charming, old world style. Regarding a previous poster who mentioned the smell from smoking...I believe that smokers are only allowed to smoke in the back room, not in the main room. We never had any problem with odor.
My Austrian boyfriend and I wanted to go out to dinner and this place was crowded so we figured it would be good. They DO have an English menu and specials list which is very nice. We shared beef carpaccio appetizer and that was fantastic. Then we got a salad, I got venison 2 ways, and he got the hunters special. The food was pretty good... I have just been to many restaurants in Austria and this place was very over priced. It seemed like there were mostly businessmen there. The atmosphere was cool though. I would suggest maybe going for some beers instead of a full dinner.
+ A charming place with an ancient atmosphere- Mostly for smokers, which spoils it :(- No English menu- Unfortunately, the only English-speaking waiter serving me wasn't especially friendly. At the end I was greatly surprised when I asked her to wrap up the leftovers of my dish - she brought a plactic container to my table and told me I should do it myself. She tried to explain something... As far as I understood, she objected to idea of "using my spoon", because it's my food and it's unhygienic. I didn't understand why she should use my spoon at all, when she could use a fresh one at the kitchen (or somebody else in rubber gloves, I don't know?)... It's a common practice in many countries (including Austria), when a waiter brings your leftovers to the kitchen and returns with a full container. I never had this problem before, and I travel a lot. A very weird notion of a good service, I think. Next time they will ask a customer to wash the plate after themselves, or won't allow them to sit at the table without negative STD test results.... So, it's unhygienic to touch my spoon (though there was absolutely no need to do it!), but it's ok to touch my credit card or cash (the dirtiest thing in the world, passing through millions of god knows which hands!) I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcomed :(
Right on the main square, with tables outside. We chose to eat indoors, in the marvellous traditional setting. Food was good Austrian fare, with Styrian touches; we couldn't believe how efficient the service was, and we noticed a big party getting served fast too. Definitely recommended.
Title says it all. The food was very good. I had a veal wiener schnitzel and my friend had the Eierschwammerl-Goulash. It was the best schnitzel I've had in a while. It was on the daily special menu, i wish it'd be a regular menu item, since I am not a big fan of pork schnitzel. The goulash was great aswell as far as I could tell from my friend. The Beer is great there. If you get the chance, order the "beer menu" you'll get a Gösser beer first and after about ten minutes the special brew Gösser, which was probably the best beer I ever drank.
