After receiving recommendations from both out hotel proprietors and Rick Steves regarding Taube, I decided to take my family for dinner on our first night in Luzern. It was a great experience, both with regard to the food and the atmosphere. We chose to eat outside because it was a beautiful night, and we were seated at a table adjacent to the river. This is right where the water flows through the dam, so it is moving very quickly and is impressive to see. It was great to sit and watch the mesmerizing, roaring water as we ate.The food on the menu is described as Swiss grandmother cooking. Our party of four had a macaroni and cheese dish, pork cutlets with cheese and ham, bacon-wrapped beef rolls, and a meat and cheese plate. All were very good, and the chef used some ingredients that we found interesting, such as apples in the Mac and cheese. Surprisingly, the French fries were amazing. We all tried each dish, and none of us had any negative feedback about the meal. The service was great, and the bill total of 140 CH was about what you'd expect for a nice meal along the river in a Swiss town. For a good meal in an awesome setting, try Taube. It's a bit expensive, but worth it. There is an ice cream shop very nearby, so you can get your dessert there to save a few bucks.
