Located in the tiny community of Mardetschlag in far northern part of Upper Austria, Gasthof Pammer provides a wonderful place to stop for a meal or stay for a few days. This inn is family owned and operated and is also part of a working livestock farm where the Pammer family raises domestic deer. This out of the way place is excellent for hiking or exploring Upper Austria or the southern reaches of the Czech Republic. I did not stay at the inn, but the restaurant is modern, spotlessly clean, and serves several local dishes in addition to typical Austrian items. Not to be missed is their selection of Freistaedter beer, brewed nearby. I cannot say enough about the warmth with which I was received by the family. I cannot wait to return and stay longer. Check in advance -- I believe the inn is closed on Tuesdays.
