This was our fourth visit to the Jardins de la Tour and our second New Year's Eve meal there. As usual, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Don't go there if you are seeking a brash, designer restaurant with piped lounge music. Everything at Les Jardins de la Tour is about nuance and subtlety: the atmosphere is warm and cosy with a preponderence of honey coloured wood, and there are only 5 or 6 tables in the whole restaurant. It gives the impression of being the privileged guest in the dining room of someone's own mountain chalet. Barbara, who handles the service at table, is warm and gentle with just the right touch of personal attention without being invasive. The wines are excellent. And the food ... is out of this world. Patrick Gazeau, the chef, conjures his magic with fresh, savoury ingredients, many of which come from the region. The pigeon consommé (concocted by Patrick himself) with foie gras was only matched in flavour and texture by the papillotte de turbot. And the Emmenthal veal just melted in your mouth. This isn't a cheap restaurant but, for a special occasion, Les Jardins de la Tour takes some beating.
