We drove by The Rose and thought it looked like a really nice restaurant with a picturesque terrace with tables under chestnut trees. We decided to take our out of town visitors there on an evening out. The atmosphere on the terrace was just as lovely as it looked from the street. However, our evening was a disappointment. The waiter, who I think was the owner, was very arrogant and rushed on this evening. He was out of the wine we ordered and instead of offering us the menu to pick out another wine, he brought us a bottle which was his recommendation. The wine was not quite to our taste and probably not one that we would have picked out ourselves. It also arrived quite warm to the table and when we asked if it could be served colder, we received a lecture about how nobody drinks wine at the right temperature and he serves his wines at exactly the right temperature. Ok, however, I believe there is a bit of flexibility at which temperature a wine can be drunk and if our request is to have the wine colder, I think, since we are the guests, it should be met without a lecture. He could have also offered another white wine that he deemed acceptable to be served at a colder temperature...Anyway after this unfriendly exchange we had already decided not to return again. The appetizers were very good, especially the soft shell crab, but the mains, a thai curry was just average and the Wienerschnitzel a big disappointment without much seasoning. Not someplace we would recommend for good food or friendly service.
