Let's dig a little deeper and see why....Food: Michelin standard cuisine, the taster menu is worth the 74CHF plus drinkies. One is ushered through a marvellous fusion of tastes and textures, each being carefully announced to the diner. Drinks: the wine and beer menu is not unlike being given a map of a treasure trove and the time to explore..Atmosphere: you are on the promenade next to the river. The ambience is superb. Feng shui types will need to visit more than once.Service: fantastic, smart and knowledgable about their foods/wines. Not a spotty teenager with no clue, more a professional and polished style.Overall, this is a special treat, I wouldn't eat there every night but for a special occasion... certainly!
We took our parents there for lunch today. The location is perfect next to the river and easy accessible. Restaurant used to be used for salt storage in the early days - that's the reason for the name. We were welcomed very nicely and felt home from the minute. The food was really creative and just cooked to perfection! Thanks to the whole team - will will be back - that's for sure!
After a long working day , we had a walk to the restaurant as it is located directly on the river bank . Food quality was Great , service was really awesome. Good wine selection as well as good non- Alcoholic cocktails .There is always 2 ways to eating. The today's Menu and the ALA Cart.Of course we went for the Today's Menu . 3 course Menu to treat your self. Simply great.
Fantastic meal with friendly staff! We all had the duck and it was amazing. Dessert was a chocolate and caramel concoction that was superb.
This is certainly the most stylish and trendiest place of Solothurn’s fine dining scene. The restaurant is – as its name suggests – an ancient salt house and is situated directly on the river (Aare) in Solothurn’s old town worth seeing. The cuisine is modern, the chef cooks in an European-Asian fusion style. I have been there a few times, but only for lunch. I cannot give an assessment for the dinner experience, which may be different because there is another food concept.The Salzhaus has a two-course lunch box on offer for lunch from Mondays to Saturdays. This costs SFR 25, be it for starter and main or for main and dessert. If you want all three courses, you have to spend SFR 30. Mineral water in included in this rate. There is either a soup or a salad as starter. For main, you can choose between a meat, fish, vegetarian and pasta dish. As to dessert, the server brings a tablet with small glasses containing about 3 different sweets. While in earlier times I had the impression that the portions are too small, I cannot say so regarding my past two visits. Both times, I had enough although the portions are not large.When I had lunch at the Salzhaus the last time, our group had all the mains except the meat one. All the dishes – a salmon trout with sushi rice and wakame, asparagus with sauce hollandaise and new potatoes as well as Asian noodles with Singapore marinade and shrimps – were light and tasty. As dessert, I picked out custard with rhubarb compote. It was okay, although the compote was a bit overpowering.In my view, the restaurant is a jewel if you look at it from an architectural point of view. The historic building was renovated in a stylish, contemporary way without neglecting its original character. Staff is friendly and attentive. The price for the two-course lunch box is not exactly inexpensive, but I find it adequate, especially when considering that mineral water is included.All in all, if you are looking for a contemporary lunch spot with a modern cuisine serving serious good food in Solothurn’s old town, then go there, you will not be disappointed.
This restaurant is fabulous! Very elegant and classy, from the atmosphere, to the service to the food. One of a kind gourmet dishes. We especially enjoyed the sampler of desserts.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner in a pleasant atmosphere. The dish with meat as well as the vegetarian dish were perfectly cooked and arranged. A great wine was proposed by the friendly and attentive staff.
My experience at the Salthouse was overall excellent. We took a group on the first night for dinner and came back later in the week. The food was excellent and so was the service. It has a comfortable and modern atmosphere with outside seating with river views. This is a place that I will visit every time I am in Solothurn.
