Swiss Historic Hotels used to be our reliable guideline - this spot changed our mind ! We did read some reviews before but I was still surprised what we experienced. Interesting to read from some that everyone who would not change his behavior to the owners expectation would be wrong. Also I would not want to see the garden of those who enjoyed the hotel´s garden :-) We were there for a coffee in the afternoon just to see the historic (!) place. A very friendly welcome from the owner and we even were allowed to have a coffee although its supposed to be a wine place. We enjoyed the atmosphere in front of the chimney BUT everything was dirty and dated. From the tableware over the carpets, walls, everything. We were so lucky not getting a room. I also would no want to try the kitchen if as clean as the rest. The location has huge potential under good management with reduced and clean interior. It is really a nice place but the way it is now its just a mess. Too bad. Not a recommendation at all. In addition to that it is even crazy expensive !!!! Zurich pricing for remote countryside in poorest quality.
The vintage hotel and restaurant is a very pleasant place to stay. The food is very tasty and cooked in an originally old kitchen. The "Polenta" from the cook Ramun is the best we have ever eaten. They also make their own wine and sparkling wine. All in all a very special and wonderful place!
A beautiful place with long and interesting history. Individually furnished comfortable rooms, great fireplace bar and fine food this place is worth a stay! Also the friendly hotel team was wonderful. We will come again!
We went there with the family after looking in tripadvisor. The location is beautiful. The food all fresh and mostly of local origin. The meat was excellent and also the service very friendly. Wine also very good produced by the restaurant itself. During the summer you can have dinner in the garden looking at the Piz Umbrail. Not to be missed.
We found this restaurant by accident - passing through Santa Maria at lunch time on our way to the Mustair monastery. We were happily surprised by the interesting menu, relaxed garden seating and the refreshing white wine made by the Guesthouse/Hotel. The restaurant specialises in dishes slow cooked in copper pans, sourcing excellent local ingredients, interestingly put together. For Switzerland's standards, the prices were very reasonable for the calibre of the food. The Ritterhaus building itself goes back around a 1000 years with quite a dramatic history which has led to it being recommended as a place to eat or stay by the My Switzerland website http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/ritterhaus-chasa-de-capol.htmlThe cellar (where the rest rooms are) has an exhibition of fabulous coaches and other paraphernalia the resident family used in the last century. Highly recommended as an interesting place to stop for great food, friendly service and masses of historical ambience.
