If you like some game and all with goes with it, Café des Amis is the place! Excellent meat, tasty sides and good wine will make your dinner/lunch unforgettable.
My husband and I have dined several times usually after a beautiful bike ride in the countryside. Delicious and reasonably priced lunch menu, approx. 20 francs for the plat du jour which includes green salad, main dish (choice of meat or fish) and dessert (coffee not included). Beautiful outdoor terrace, however inside dining is ordinary. Swift and courteous service. We have not had to make reservations at lunch yet, but it may be wise particularly if you want to eat outdoors on a nice summers day. Never been there for supper so cannot comment. Have not been with kids yet but I did notice they have a highchair.
Having cycled past Café des Amis many times, I expected the standard 'french' fare of steak and chips and average wine or beer. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that this cute countryside restaurant standards head and shoulders above the usual local cuisine, with carefully put together, tasty and perfectly cooked meals. We had the set menu and each little detail was exquisitely executed, from the tapenade with the goats cheese salad to the sauce on the steak. The restaurant also offers a wide range of beers.The service was excellent, friendly, casual and quick.A great place to take visitors to the area or for a romantic lunch or dinner. We'll be going back soon.By the way you can easily walk to Choulex (where the café is) from Geneva through the beautiful countryside, past fields of sun flowers and majestic old mansions. Takes about an hour from Eaux-Vives.
This is the game season so I decided to go once more to this restaurant. The service was very poor, it was Saturday noon, the menu was attractive but the venison, which was on the menu, was overcooked and arrived after more than 40 minutes after my order. I doubt if I can be convinced to visit again. The restaurant has two levels and I had opted for a table on the first floor which was quiet because the ground floor was very busy.
Both the quality and presentation of the food were superb. The menu ranges from traditional Geneva food such as filets de perches to a variety of Autumnal game dishes (quails, venison). It included an array of international dishes. The food we ate was beautifully presented, delicious, and we ended up eating too much because it was so good and the portions were generous! From memory, the menu was SF58 with a choice of first courses, then a main of fish or meat (of the kind you would get in London for a small fortune) and a pudding. I recommend the tarts, especially the one with "myrtilles" (blueberries). There was a vegetarian menu for SF39. The filets of perch was very well priced at SF36 and served with a separate bowl of "straw" chips. The service was friendly, professional and unobtrusive - perfection indeed. There is a small parking.
Two different dishes (meat or fish) were available in the daily lunch menu at a very reasonable price (Salad, main course and desert). The quality of the dishes was very good, well presented and tasty.Staff courteous and efficient. The restaurant location in the Geneva countryside is excellent but the main downstairs dining area is somewhat average.
