This place is definitely a good place to go to if you are in Basil and want some good classic 'European' food. We needed a place to eat lunch/dinner and the receptionist of our hotel directed us here. I will go over the positives and negatives.Positives:*Availability: This place was the only one that was open since it was a national holiday. *Food: Me and my mother both ordered the veal schnitzel and it's safe to say that it was probably one of the best schnitzels I've ever tried.* Service: The people were very kind and understanding about everything. They even offered to give us a table that was already reserved since it was reserved for 6:00 and we came at 5:00. We declined, but it was still nice of them.Negatives: *Price: The price was quite hefty but then again, this is Switzerland.We didn't make a reservation but we got a good table. Since you can come here any time, I suggest you do!
We were staying in Basel for a few days after a river cruise. After reading some decent reviews, we decided to give Restauration Zur Harmonie a chance in Basel. Another cruise couple ended up joining us. I ordered the " Grilled king Prawns in bread crumbs" with fried potatoes for 29 euros / francs. My friend did also. When our food was delivered, it was a plate of frozen, fried shrimp. When I questioned the waiter he said, "Well, aren't those bread crumbs?" I said, "Where are the grilled prawns?" He just giggled and walked away. Unbelievable! Had they been hand breaded fresh shrimp, I might have been okay. But these were frozen, straight out of the bag, fried shrimp (looked exactly like pic below). Could it be some kind of bait and switch for tourists? Maybe... Beware!
Just ate at Harmonies based on good vibes from Trip Advisor. You could not prove it by us. My wife's grilled prawns were just breaded frozen shrimp and my pork sausage with bacon Rossi left a lot to be desired. Add $9.50 per bottled water, we had two, because no air conditioning inside and hot and humid both inside and out, and you have a totally forgettable $100 evening.
Great service and the food was well presented and great taste. Seating outside was nice but seats could be more comfortable
Arriving in Basel the day before a river cruise, we we're looking for a local spot with authentic cuisine. Zur Harmonie was the right place. A substantial veal cordon bleu was a great choice as was the rosti with bratwurst. The terrace dining made the night complete. Harmonie is a comfortable space with a wide variety of entree choices.
After a day of discussions, it is good to unwind with colleagues and friends at this unassuming place, where simple and good Swiss dishes are on the menu. The terrace sits on a quiet street, no hordesof tourists, just local people eating local food. And drinking nice local wines. Discover the other Basel at zur Harmonie! As temperatures were high, I settled for roastbeef with tartar sauce, which was as it should be but nothing extraordinary.
This is a nice place to try traditional Swiss/Basel food e.g. rosti and sausages. The restaurant has an old traditional feel with a beautiful stained glass window. The service was fast and friendly.
We had dinner here our first night in Basel. It has a good variety of entrees to please meat lovers and vegetarians. We had warm seafood salad that was good. Nothing extraordinary in terms of preparation but we were satisfied. The place is very busy in the early evening.
