Couple weeks ago my Friend was about to celebrate her passed exams at Bücheli. She called there to order a table for 15 people (2 weeks in advance.) The person was not really reliable and could hardly speak German (probably not even English, what we would expect for such a “sophisticated” location.) Therefore my friend called the bar a second time to confirm the 1st reservation and the women on the phone told us not to worry as they put it already on the reservation list.On the day, when we were about to celebrate our special event our Table was already taken by other people. The waiter asserted that there is no reservation for 15 people. The worst thing was that he was really rude und unfriendly to us and they did not even want to offer a compensation for the misery. Our complaints were just in vain as they did not even care about it.After couple of discussions they put a new table for us (it was very small and not appropriate for 15 people, maybe not even for 10 people.) The new waiter which was assigned to our table 1. could not speak German and 2. Was very unfriendly and had an aggressive attitude towards us. We just ignored his behavior as we wanted to celebrate and not let his mood affect ours. But after 10mins, after we have already ordered the first drinks he asked us, why we are not going to order a Bottle, “as this is usual if somebody orders a whole table”. My friend was already very furious and answered to him, that this is not going to happen as our “original” reservation and the table we actually wanted to have for this evening, has not been recognized and that the service in this F* bar is an absolute disaster and the worst thing that she has ever experienced in her entire life. He replied, unfriendly again, that this is the instruction from the management, therefore we asked him to call the management that we can sort the problem out, as we do not want to accept this. Of course there was no management around so that we called for the bill and walked off. To sum up, the evening at Bücheli was a huge disappointment, as the waiters have no idea what „customer service and customer focus“ means. The Bücheli team are thinking that the whole profit and image come only from the sold drinks (which are by the way too expensive) but actually its about customer service and kindness towards people. I would recommend to Bücheli to invest (from the way to high margin they gain from the expensive drinks) in an adequate Knigge course. The BüCHELI BAR is an absolute NO-GO for us and we are not going to visit it again!
Being locals we go for pre-dinner drinks now and then. We avoided the Bücheli being always crowded with smoking people. For a year now it is smoke-free but you wouldn't imagine. It still has got the smell and the interior looks partly shabby (although not the furniture which is in quite good condition.) We ordered cocktails (good range) which came nicely decorated but without anything to nibble. When I went to the bar to ask for peanuts or that sort of thing I was told they wouldn't have any, I could order stuff from the menu. Going for dinner afterwards I was not interested in having snacks beforehand. So we discussed the topic and had a look at the menu again. We noticed that the drinks were cheaper than in other bars (where you get nibbling stuff.) When we paid, the waiter added without being told CHF -.50 to the price of each of the drinks. Which is not a lot but still veeeery bold. We wouldn't have noticed if we didn't have the discussion about the price range.
The crowd here tries slightly too hard to be cool but this place does do decent cocktails and is well located, with decent outdoor seating.
