The Chalet is in almost every photograph of Gruyeres, so I don't need to tell you how to find it. It's the only restaurant open late (till 11 in summer) in Gruyeres on the weekend, so it's inevitably busy at night. Great fondue. Really solid service. My favorite: the balcony tables overlooking the entire village. Perfect!

We were three motorcyclists who visited for lunch. The only thing on the menu seemed to be either Cheeseburger & Fries or Steak & Fries. The waitress (perhaps owner as she was an older woman) seemed annoyed and was definitely in bad humour. We told her we were sitting outside but she told us we were not to sit at the table we chose and told us to sit as the table furthest away from the door. It was a hot day and we were downwind of the septic tank - not a nice aroma. Anyway we ordered 3 cheeseburgers & fries and 3 cokes. She told us we'd have to wait 40 minutes. What? We were hungry but said ok. After 5 minutes the cokes arrived. 10 minutes later she came back and told us there was no cheese. That's OK we said, just the burger & fries. Not possible she said! What other choice do we have we asked: Steak & fries she says. OK say we - but we'll have to wait another while - that's fine say we, sure it's grand day to be sitting in the sun - but we're rapidly getting peed off at your woman's attitude - like she didn't want us there. Eventually the "steak" & fries arrived - steak my eye, it was a steak burger! We finished, paid the bill with the exact amount required - no tip left for such a terrible service. If I ever visit the top of that mountain again I'll bring my own food & drink.

insgesamt gute Erfahrung, aber es gibt ein paar Dinge zu verbessern. die abendliche Mahlzeit begann sehr gut in einer 5-Sterne-Rating. der service war sehr freundlich und lächelnd und der starter (salade d’aubergines und soupe du jour) ausgezeichnet. die Pasta gefüllt mit Ziegenkäse sind ausgezeichnet. die Pasta mit Mozzarella, Oliven, Kapern und Zirschtomaten sind gut, aber deutlich unten im Geschmack. das suprême de poulet ist kein suprême, sondern nur ein eskalope. Es war gut und die Sauce war gut. das Gras war gut. die Brühe ist für mich eindeutig das Schlimmste: In einem französischsprachigen Bereich erwarte ich viel besser. die tiramisu war gut. Schließlich ist das Menü verdächtig lang, auch wenn sie die Pizzas ausschneiden. Dies zeigt in der Regel, dass alles hausgemacht ist, aber gut, wenn der Geschmack hier ist, vielleicht ist das kein Problem.
