On our first night in Salzburg, my friend and I were jonesing for some traditional Austrian food. We were staying at the H+ Hotel, and were after somewhere easily walkable. This restaurant is in a quiet neighbourhood literally a five minute stumble from the hotel. The staff were friendly and attentive, and - on hearing our shocking attempts at German - provided us with English menus. We were impressed to see the wide range of fresh, Austrian dishes on display. If meat is your thing, there's an in house butcher who provides many different types of traditional sausage and offal. My friend opted for the Wiener schnitzel, which she pronounced delicious. I had the potato and cheese dumplings, which came swimming in butter, chives and fried onions. They were tasty and very reasonably priced. Though we'd said we couldn't eat another mouthful, somehow we found room to share the excellent hazelnut souffle pudding! Don't come if you can't tolerate dairy, or are vegan. Otherwise, this is worth seeking out!
Although it is away from the retstless tourist places and close to the main station it is always busy and you should place a reservation. Staff is extraordinary friendly and you will have the chance to get rare but wonderful original Austrian food at a very high level of qulity for a fair price.
This was on the other side of the train station from our hotel and we'll away from the center of the city. It was filled with locals, but the staff was pleasant and patient. They provided English menus. My wife had the gnocchi and thought it excellent. I had a more traditional sausage dish with lentils that was exquisite. We finished with a cappuccino and the hazelnut souffle. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food. Highly recommended.
Dined there tonight at the recommendation of our host. Bookings are essential and we can see why.food was very authentic and large serves and absolutely wonderful quality. Great value, cost about AUD$25 per head incl drinks. I would say an absolute essential visit if anyone is in Salzburg. Friendly helpful staff, can't fault this restaurant.
Atmosphere (bird chirping and children playing in the distant). Blood sausage was my absolute favourite. Braun sausage was average. Try the rhabarber - hollersaft drink if you haven't. The liver dumpling soup was amazing! Definitely recommend.
Local Austrian food, nice restaurant, very good taste. A little far away from centre but convenient for us as our hotel was near by.
I stayed near the train station. This restaurant is the far side of the Station in a small residential area (see Trip Advisor map). Staff very attentive and speak English. The food I saw looked like good-wholesome Austrian cooking at a reasonable price. Wines by the glass were also good value. The atmosphere was homely and I will certainly go back. Thank you!
Can't speak a word of German but made to feel very welcome and many explained. Not sure about the calf's head but my didn't it taste great.
