During a schoolcamp with a Swiss primary school we stayed at le soliat for one night and had dinner and breakfast there.I will beginn with the positive. The food was not bad and the location is certainly great. The location is probably also the reason why this place is still in business. The stay there is extremely expensive and we were only willing to spend the money because it was supposed to be the highlight of the camp. From the beginning when we arrived the staff was terrible. Our group was not welcome there at all. The employees expected that all the 22 kids (arround 12 years old) in our group should be quiet during the whole stay. The noise they created was average of a group this size and certainly not over the top. Even the only other guest we saw at le soliat during the night told us it wasnt bad and that it didn't bother her at all. After beeing at le soliat for about 3 hours we were repeatedly threatened very agressively that we would be thrown out if the kids were not quiet. This was also noticed by the kids and they started to feel scared. What should have been a fun last night and a highlight of their school camp became a nightmare for many of the kids.I would never ever go there again and I will also tell everybody that goes to the creux du van that they should avoid supporting a business like this.

Once this used to be a nice place to have some traditional stuff, fondue or meat platter, after a hike up to La Creux-du-Van but definitely not any longer. Terrible, incredibly rude service, disgusting cooks who put fingers into fondue (yes, I saw that - he dropped something into it and then put his fingers in to take that thing out), slow service, absent minded cashier who first takes down your order in a rush and then forgets to give you what you ordered and all that at very high Geneva-like prices (fondue Fr. 23, a bottle of wine Fr. 29). Luckily the food was not contaminated and I made it to the next day but, in such a 'establishment' you never know. All in all, stay away unless you are a masochist.

We went there on 21 May for lunch and had reserved the table. Living in the region for more than 15 years we know what to expect in such hidden chalets, basic but nice regional food. Quite the opposite in this place. The open kitchen is run by a rather chaotic team, very impolite and pretty dirty looks. I saw the cook rinsing the mushrooms he after put in the fondue in the sink with dirty dishes inside. After 40 minutes of waiting for being able to order (in the kitchen) as they staff would dare to serve at the tables, we decided to leave. With us there were about three other families who did the same. Shameful for such a beautiful location which is situated at one of the nicest landmarks in the region. An official tour guide who I met afterwards confirmed that this place is unfortunately know for being overpriced, bad food and no service whatsoever. Just look at the other reviews and take your own decision.

The restaurant is in a beautiful setting and this might be the only positive thing about it, this also explains its popularity next to the Creux du Van.Service is lousy, waiters are stressed out and extremely rude, pushing people when they cannot walk quick enough to the tables. We paid 26.- per person for a fondue that was served between other people's leftovers. Tables aren't cleaned nor dirty dishes removed. I have never seen something like this. Shameful.

A nice place to sit outside and enjoy the people walking by on their way to/back from Creux du van. You can enjoy a nice local food like ham plates or a cheese fondue with a drink.

Total chaos mixed with rude service and exaggerated prices. Such a shame as the place and environment are lovely and charming.

Stayed here for one night as we wanted to visit Creux du Van. The yurt are great with one double bed and two single beds. I was worried that it might be really hot inside since it's summer, but it was actually pretty cool at night. No toilet/bathroom in the yurt, so we had to walk to the communal ones (shared with others who stay at the 'dormitory'. Having said these though, I think the yurts are better & more private than their rooms or dormitory (bunk beds) which are more hostel-like. There are 3 yurts.Accommodation rate incl. breakfast + dinner.Food served at lunch & dinner: fondue, potato gratin & ham and mixed salad (big & small). For breakfast, they serve tea, coffee, orange juice, bread, butter, jam and a platter of dried meat & cheese. You will see cows, pigs and hens in the compound.Creux du Van is 7-10 minutes walking from Le Soliat up the hill. In the afternoon you might walk pass the Angus cows - some are with their calves. They are friendly (and a bit noisy with the big bells around their necks).Great adventure for families, just be careful with the Creux du Van's deep cliff

My visit was actually in 2011, but TripAdvisor won't give me that choice when picking the date. It was such a magical trip, although very short from Neuchatel. We went to Creux du Van with a couple of friends to enjoy the beauty of the place. Around 300m from the breathtaking summit lies this restaurant very authentic from outside to inside and where I had the best cheesecake of my entire life. Highly recommend it.
