I entered the terrace with my baby girl on a Friday morning. We were planing to have some cappuccinos. As my girl saw the slide, she was running towards the playground and in the meantime the owner was opening up the terrace. The greeting of the owner was the playground is just for guests , bevor we had any other conversation. Other guests arriving shared my opinion. I was utterly disappointed.
I I had two terrible lunches at this place. Once a salad was served with so much dressing that it was inedible and the owner refused to change it. The other time i ordered a tomato salad with mozzarella and the tomatoes were so green and hard that they were impossible to eat. I mentioned to the staff who ignored me. I did not insist but will never get any more food at this place. It's a shame because it's a nice place with a terrace.
My friend and I were walking from Zug to Luzern. The weather was miserable, and as it was a Sunday almost every place along the way was closed. Thankfully the Gasthaus was open. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and nice. Both of our meals were excellent, and very good value, and all the other food looked amazing as well. It was a wonderful Swiss experience. It is probably one of the best places I've come across since I've lived in Switzerland. If you're ever in the area, I would 100% recommend this restaurant.
...but it feels very tight. More tables more visitors. Still they can keep up with the service and bring drinks and food adequately if you are not in rush hour. I have been here a few times but overall I prefer a reserved table inside for eating and a table on the terrace for a cool drink in summer. Unfortunately it is now narrow and a bit hectic. I also have to agree to visitors that the prices are too high. Sorry for not being one of these paying any price without asking it is simply too much. Maybe we had a bad day and we will for sure return.
The Gasthaus is located a few kilometers from Root. You need a car, motorbike or bicycle to get there. The food is really great and the service is excellent.
We decided on short notice to go enjoy the sunset on little mount Rooterberg as the view is simply amazing over the greater Zug area, towards Luzern, the Lake Valley as well as towards the south beautiful mount Rigi! There`s a little chapel on the summit, approx 5 walking minutes away from the restaurant. Up there, you enjoy a view almost as if you are flying in a helicopter. We later learned that the restaurant provides and serves a pic nick up there, too. What a great idea, though I can`t remember the price for that service. After our little excursion we went down to the restaurant. The ambiance is very appealing, warm, modern as well as traditional. We just liked it. The owner welcomed us and created a very comfy atmosphere throughout out stay with our young and lively kids. To shorten the waiting time for the kids, we went outside to the play ground. When the food was ready, the host got me the kids in. (What a great service! The menu was appealing as you would expect from such a place and the kitchen lived up to our expectation. In fact: it was above average to realy good! The prices were acceptable. What a nice evening!
