We visited this restaurant for lunch twice, and clearly felt it is the best ski lunch in Saas Fee. Higher up you have Spielboden but service is average and prices astronomical. GletcherGrotte, on the other hand, is the real deal. Great atmosphere and tasty food at reasonable prices. Service is good and you have that genuine mountain ambience. We recommend the rosti with cheese.
One of our favourite mountain restaurants in both summer and winter. In summer its a great place to stop on a walk and have a drink or even lunch - the food is very good and tastes fresh. In winter it is a very atmospheric hut with a sunny terrace on a nice day or a cosy interior with a fire if it's bleak. Always enjoy a visit here.
My daughter and I were walking in the moutain surrounding Saas-Fee, when after 1 hour of walk, we discovered this beautiful, amazing, unreal restaurant location !!! A great place to relax after such effort and a nice welcome was offered to us by the local staff. We took ice cream and cold chocolate milk, which was, at that altitude, just tasting delicious. We did not eat there unfortunately, but we visited the restaurant inside and outside, I should say that if the weather is very good, with blue sky and sun, the place is absolutely beautiful ! It's a relaxing and breathtaking view to enjoy some peace and quite in your life. The only point which I could complain about, is about smokers on terrace. We were relaxing, enjoying fresh moutain air, when a guy came, alone, sat next to our table and immediately started to smoke a cigaret, very nice. The smoke was coming to us, so I had to move somewhere else as this is not acceptable to me, to breath smoke of others ! Smokers, please think a little bit before to annoy your neighbours, one time, they will not be so friendly as I was !The condition of the house is really good, with toilets, electricity, water, well a really great constrution, all is clean and well taken care of, good job from the owner side !Well, that's it ! Without doubt our favorite restaurant on the mountain in Saas Fee. To get there, keep an eye out for the signs on the left hand side of run 11a, and follow the narrow path to the restaurant. There's a great big balcony which allows you to take in the fantastic view of the mountains. The nice thing is that this place is set back from the ski run, so there is a real tranquility to the location. The menu offers a good variety of options, but it's hard to go past the rosti. Served in a hot ceramic pot, straight out of the oven, they taste amazing and provide plenty of energy to fuel you for the rest of the day. Perhaps the biggest risk of dropping in to GletscherGrotte on a sunny day is that you end up enjoying sitting in the sun too much, and you forget about skiing! But if that's the biggest problem, I'd say these are quality problems to have.
Small inside but a great terrace outside to enjoy the food, the views and hopefully the sunshine. Very good chicken pita salad and good cakes prepared daily.
High quality food at a little mountain restaurant with good and efficient service. Swiss quality at it's best, highly recommended!
Ski here lots and this is tne BEST place to enjoy the BEST rosti in the whole of Saas Fee. We have tried them in most of the restaurants over the years. Summer or winter the standard is consistently good.
That's what friends had told us and we totally agree! We skied right past it the first couple of days. So glad we made it! A must-try.
