I had dinner here one night recently while on a ski vacation with 5 friends. Freiwild was recommended by the hotel I stayed at, and it was a very easy walk from our hotel, so we gave it a shot.As noted in my review title, Freiwild has a more diverse menu than the traditional schnitzel and wurst staples that one often finds in Austria and Germany. One of my friends had an asian curry dish, I opted for a shrimp and spaghetti meal.The ambiance and decor were great, I would call it modern traditional for Austria (if that makes sense?). The service was attentive and very friendly, and the presentation of the meals themselves was upscale and appealing. But in the end, the food was pretty average. It's great if you're looking for a break from the Obertauern norm, but I thought the dishes could have been sharper and more flavorful.
Our hotels food was average or below and again trip adwisor did help us to find this good restaurant.
We tried this restaurant as we could not face another night eating at our package deal hotel. Thankfully, the recommendation was accurate with good quality and some unusual dishes which you might not expect to find in a ski resort. We only wish we had discovered it earlier in our holiday.
I don't would like to try the other 39 restaurants listed on trip advisor when this restaurant is number three in Obertauern. Food and beverage was average, service was good.
we took the tripadvisor recommendation and booked this restaurant with kids and grandkids. the service was very friendly - with colouring menus for tired children, no problem sharing dishes, excellent wine list (not easy in a ski village) and really imaginative and tastyfood.
Good food of the beaten skiing paths. Good food and service for reasonable prices. We enjoyed the modern alpine atmosphere.
Came here to try their Freiwild burger, I was not disappointed but the bun was stale and the meat was not excellent, don't get me wrong, the burger was good but it didn't blow my mind. All in all a nice experience.
I am writing this while still sitting here and enjoying my experience. So you can see how strongly they impressed me!The menu in this restaurant is short, but offers so many interesting dishes, I had hard time narrowing down my choices, so I want to come back asap to try the rest.Anyways, the people who work here are sooooo nice, so kind-and this from taking our reservation onwards! They were booked out, but we still got the wine-table at the bar, and actually, this is one of the best and most cosiest corners. We loved it and didn't move even once a table was vacant.So they are warmhearted, genuinely kind, attentive and still in a relaxed way, so the atmosphere is not stiff and somehow feels like home. This simply fits to this snowy wintery mountain picturescue environment.The food is pure excellence. I was totally blown away, since I didn't expect that. Already reading the menu raised interest. I just hoped it would be as good as it was read...and it was even better-it was simply perfect!!! I recommend this place to all the ones genuinely enjoying great food, anyone open to a lot more than a simple steak with fries.You will not regret your choice!
