We love Wengernalp and it has stayed the same for years and THIS IS exactly what makes it so unique. This is our 6th year and many more to come.Very charming Hotel, incredibly well run by Urs and Patricia von Almen. There is no place like it. Lovely rooms, finest amenities, beautiful flower arrangements, many comfortable places to sit, great heated ski equipment shed, sauna and best location in the Jungfrau region. The food is excellent, unmatched by any restaurant in the area and surely deserves its star rating. Service is always lovely, friendly and skilled. Skiing options are plenty for every skill level. For us it is the sixth year we have come here, for our friends who introduced us to Wengernalp it has been 20 years and going. We are all world travelers yet return every year to Wengernalp like to no other place.
On a snowy day when it was hard to get up too much motivation for skiing in a whiteout, this place provide welcome refuge and a roaring fire. It's just by the Wengernalp train stop and a very short walk up a hill. You are greeted with the sight of an authentic family-run Swiss Alpine hotel when you walk through the old reception & into the main communal room. It's a very charming mountain inn that dates all the way back to 1865. A few glasses of red wine, a few bowls of nuts and a warm of the aching limbs was just what the doctor ordered.
A little more expensive than some of the restaurants in the Jungfrau region but if looking for a lighter option to the numerous potato and cheese offerings this is the place to go. The salad was amazing washed down with some lovely rose, which can be difficult to find in the region.
we had the plan to have lunch in the Hotel Wengernalp on a windy day in early january. There was no welcome at all!!To our great disappointment we found all tables that were free with a small card "reserved". Asking one person if they could find us a place, we had no answer. So we left the Restaurant and walked to the Kleine Scheidegg were we had a great welcome an a fine lunch!
So thrilled to secure a reservation in such a beautiful setting. Service was awful and we waited nearly an hour for food. Food delicious but tiny portions and overpriced. House wine was extortionate at 57 Swiss francs for a bottle of FondantJust go for coffee and chocolate cake which was exceptional!
Sitting in warm December sunshine drinking wine - no better place for lunch on the mountain. The specials of the day were delicious: stroganoff and a winter glad with jamon iberico and thinly sliced pork; the papardelle was pronounced excellent and the kaseschnitte everything hot melted cheese on toast should be. The service was excellent. Pricey but worth it and you can reserve a table which is ready when you are! Not for those on an economy budget - but then Wengen is not a budget resort.
I always love eating here although can't afford to too often. They do very good food and my Personal opinion the best rueblitorte (carrot cake) in the world. :-) I highly recommend visiting even just for rueblitorte and hot chocolate!!! But also all the food.
A restaurant with a great atmosphere. The restaurant was full when I came but I got a place around the fire, which was nice.The staff was nice and friendly.The rösti dishes are apparently famous and the rösti-lachstartar that I had was not exception. The taste was superb, the drawback was that it was somewhat burnt (charcoal burnt that is...), for a place with their reputation it was little sad (and they couldn't deal with the matter, even when they saw the pile with black bits on the plate). Putting this aside, it was a very good lunch experience and I would definitely go there again.
