Beautiful setting. We enjoyed both evening meals. Loved the Swiss cheeses fondue our first evening, and a local potato "pancake" type mixture. Both were local dishes and were great. The weather was beautiful for our outdoor seating....just hate all the smokers. There is no smoke free side or seating. Deserts are good, too. (Pictures show potato pancakes and view from our table.)
it was not the first time we passed by in Interlaken and decided to have a nice coffeeat Schuh`s. We enjoyed the coffee and the excellent sweets and cakes.But we had to wait for service a very long time.Obviously the management does not engage enough personal for service.
After a trip up to the Schilthorn and on our way back to Bern, we decided to stop for Dinner in Interlaken. The city center is beautiful, especially the Hoheweg which faces the mountains. There were plenty of para gliders coming down all the time in the field opposite us. We picked the Grand Cafe after looking at the menu. The staff were very formal and stiff. We had questions about some of the offered options in the menu and asked for small changes - but were told that they only serve exactly as written in the menu. Eventually, we got food and it was fine - nothing great - but quite expensive for what we ordered. I will look for another place next time in Interlaken.
We had the tomato soup which was excellent. The flammekuchen was good and might have been better had it not taken 30minutes to get it after we finished our soup. Not sure why it took so long. The waitress was fabulous, great sense of humor.
The restaurant offers a healthy child menu option (real piece of a good fish, plus vegetables) which we indeed appreciated. Food was nice. Location is excellent especially on a sunny day. The only downside - slow service
Grand Cafe has a varied menu based on traditional Swiss cousin. I love the Raclette night that they provide a buffet with the best Raclette I have tried. There is also Tirolean alive music in the Raclette night. Other plate that I really liked was the Rösti. It is the best in town and they have an extensive variety of them! The service is fast and courteous. The terrace is illuminated with faint light in the night that allows you to enjoy the landscape, which is incredible.You do not leave the restaurant without trying the Toblerone mousse and their ice creams. Specially, I highly recommend the Macadamia Dulce de Leche or the Caramel. Obviously, you should also try the Swiss Chocolate ice cream!
If my wife and I are hungry when in Interlaken, we go to the Grand Cafe for its set fixed-price lunch. Two courses of very good food at around Fr18.50 or so per head. I recommend it highly. Service is good. The place is spotless.
Nice menu with well prepared dishes. I only ordered the pumpkin soup and the house salad, but both were very good. The service from waitstaff was efficient and attentive. The location is very good, on the main street of the east side of Interlaken, facing the million dollar Eiger view. I would recommend this restaurant.
