Visited the restaurant as it was recommend by our hostess. We didn't make a reservation as it was off season and took a chance. There wasn't much of a greeting at the host desk and there were a good amount of guests in the restaurant to give it atmosphere. Staff were pleasant enough. Service was a little slow but since we were on holiday anyway so we didn't mind taking our time. And perhaps the big group of almost 30 pax ahead of us contributed to the wait. We ordered entrees which didn't come. About 40 minutes later, we were surprised when the mains arrived, both steaks was over done as was the salmon (we were asked how we liked them cooked) and the chicken parma was burnt and rock hard. They rushed out our starter when we said that it was missed and offered another chicken parma but we declined and just sent it back. The whole situation was really awkward and it was a series of errors that it became too embarrassing to continue to say that our meals were not enjoyable at all. No sign of the manager in this situation and the staff were very stoned faced. No one checked to see if we were happy with our dinner. They dropped off the bill when we were still eating our dinner?! Anyway, they gave us a couple of beers, steak sauces and the entrée on the house. But to be honest, we would rather have a nice meal which gave respect to the beautiful Tasmanian salmon and beef it deserved. We work in hospitality and travel a bit. We probably are more critical about the service than your average Joe but for an establishment which has quite a high volume of guests all year round, the basic standard needs to improve significantly to be called a restaurant. The whole Swiss Village has a certain charm and great potential to be a fun place to stay. The restaurant just has to lift it's game to have the whole package.
